The Committee meet this day pursuant to notice.
The Minutes of the last Meeting, held on the 30th ultimo, are read and confirmed.
EXPENDITURE IN EXCESS OF THE ESTIMATES FOR 1885.
SERVICES EXCLUSIVE OF ESTABLISHMENTS.
Post Office.
Read a Minute by His Excellency the Governor recommending a vote of £2,767 @ 3/5 $16,197.07, for balance due by the Colony up to 31st January, 1883, for Colonial share of expenses for Postal Convention.
The Committee find this to be a claim from the Imperial Post Office, forwarded through the Secretary of State for the Colonies, in Despatch No. 54 of the 19th September, 1885; and the Postmaster General of the Colony (Hon. A. LISTER) reports the explanation given by the London Post Office to be perfectly satisfactory.
The Committee, therefore, recommend that the amount be voted.
Miscellaneous Services.
Read a Minute by His Excellency the Governor recommending a vote of $165, being expenses in connexion with the Law Revision Commission.
The Committee find that the amount previously voted for this service having been exhausted, it will be necessary to vote this sum to cover the salaries and incidental expenses to the end of the Financial year.
The Committee consider this expenditure reasonable, and recommend that the amount be voted.
EXPENDITURE IN EXCESS OF THE ESTIMATES FOR 1886.
ESTABLISHMENTS. Gaol.
Read a Minute by His Excellency the Governor recommending the following votes for Salaries of Servants for Gaol Officers, from 1st December, 1885, to 30th November, 1886.

The Committee find that hitherto Gaol Officers have been allowed to employ prisoners as their personal servants, a system which is considered to be detrimental to the proper discipline of the establishment; and they recommend that the items, which are reasonable, be voted.
The Committee adjourn sine die.
Read and confirmed this 27th day of January, 1886.
